South Lakes Labour Party express great concern over Boris Johnson’s announcement to prorogue parliament and feel it is a threat to our democracy.
A strong contingent of South Lakes Labour attended the demonstration alongside Green Party, Lib Dem, non-aligned members of the public and even some conservatives on Saturday 31st August outside the Town Hall Kendal.
Paul Braithwaite, chair of SLLP, said, “To say proroguing has nothing to do with a No Deal BREXIT is a downright lie. It is essential for all concerned citizens that we keep up the pressure on the government and for that reason we are holding a second event on New Road directly opposite the Conservative offices on Saturday 7th September at 2.00pm and warmly invite members of the public and members of all political parties to join with us there. Bring your placards and have a good day”
We are delighted to say that Tina Becker Administrative and Constituency Manager of the Westmorland and Lonsdale Liberal Democrats has accepted and is circulating our information.
This event coincides with the Lakes Alive Festival and so will have a high profile.
