Thousands of people across South Lakes have lost their income during the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands more have seen a reduction in their income as shops and workplaces have been closed under government edict, whilst restrictions on leaving home have affected sole traders and self-employed tradespeople as well. They are struggling to cope and many are having to rely on food banks to get by. Our local food banks at at Kendal, Milnthorpe, Grange and Windermere are seeing an unprecedented demand, whilst donations into their usual supermarket collection points have fallen as fewer people are shopping in person.
South Lakes Labour has launched an appeal on the crowd-funding platform, Spacehive, to raise funds for the food banks in the Westmorland & Lonsdale Constituency area, and in just two days we have already reached 25% of our initial £400 target. All the money raised from this appeal will be going to the food banks to help fund their work.
Most of us have not seen a situation of this kind in the UK in our lifetimes, where our communities, neighbours and friends are unable to work, and many are struggling to feed their families when they have little or no income coming in.
South Lakes Labour is committed to help. Please will you support our food bank appeal at https://www.spacehive.com/sll-supporting-our-local-foodbanks if you can, thank you.
