Hello again. Since launching the blog I’ve had contact with some of you and most were keen to meet up. As you’ve no doubt heard, things are on hold meeting-wise until after the leadership election. This will conclude at the annual conference in September 2016. As a result, I am offering dates for us to meet between the 20th October 2016 and 3rd November 2016.
There are lots of things that we need to discuss, including what we see as the priorities for women in South Lakeland. I’m keen to hear from as many people as possible, so can I ask you to do one of the following:
- If you would like to meet up: e-mail me on firstname.lastname@example.org with an idea of what time and date it would be most convenient for us to meet and also where you live.
- If you can’t commit to meeting up but want to contribute please email me (email@example.com) and I’ll let you have all the information by e-mail so that you can contribute.
I’ll eventually provide a resume of what everyone has said and post it on the blog, along with ideas for next steps.
For those of you who are new to this blog, my name is Anna and I’m the recently appointed Women’s Office for South Lakes Labour. Like most women who take on things, I’m too busy to do so but it’s an important task and I’m keen to do my bit.
The name of the blog (The Blogging Roses) is a tribute to Jo Cox. Her tragic death reminded so many of us of the vital contribution women make to political life and so this blog will hopefully be a small but lasting reminder of not only what she achieved, but also the way she achieved it. I hope we can pledge to listen to each other, respect each other and be determined to achieve the things that we know are important to our communities.
Many individuals, communities and organisations chose the symbol of red and white roses to remember Jo (red for the Labour Party, white for Yorkshire) and so our emblem is a red and white rose.
Finally, if you are free to come to Liverpool on the 24th September this year, that’s the date of the National Women’s Conference. Several of us are hoping to meet up so please do apply to come. There is a crèche but spaces need to be booked ASAP.
Hope to hear from you soon.
