Responding to the announcement by the Lancashire and South Cumbria New Hospitals Programme of the shortlisted proposals for new hospital facilities, Paul Braithwaite, Chair of Westmorland and Lonsdale Labour Party commented:

“For local people worried about travelling further for treatment, it’s a relief that the ‘single new hospital’ option has been dropped.

“But there will be continuing concern about the location of ‘new sites’ (under three proposals) now that building new hospitals on existing sites has been ruled out. For further consultation on the shortlist proposals to be meaningful, this information needs to be in the public arena.

“South Lakes Labour also wants clear assurances about the future of Westmorland General Hospital.”
