Our Constituency has made a donation of £5,000 to Barrow & Furness CLP from our current funds. On top of this, we are aiming to raise £10,000 from our Take Back Barrow Appeal. This is a large amount for us to raise and we have never been so ambitious. Our aim is to help get Michelle Scrogham elected as the Labour MP in Barrow & Furness at the next General Election. We have already raised nearly £4,000 towards our target which is a great start.

Here are some interesting figures. In the first quarter of this year the Tory Party received donations of £12.3 million – over twice the figure the Labour Party received. In May £5 million was donated by one man, Mohamed Mansour, two months after it was announced he would be the Tory Party’s ‘senior treasurer’ – the largest single amount they have had in over 20 years., and over the last 10 years private health companies have donated £800,000 pounds to the Tories, according to figures unearthed by Open Democracy in January.

But do not despair! The Tories are in such a mess and have lost so much public support that no amount of money can guarantee their victory. They can spend millions campaigning and their media friends are guaranteed to spread confusion and lies. However, a Labour victory is looking increasingly likely. A lot our energy will go to supporting Barrow & Furness, and everyone (whether a party member or not) can help. Our small donations will influence the outcome and help in unseating a Tory MP.
