Labour's General Election candidate, Pippa Smith

South Lakes Labour has a  candidate for the General Election expected in 2024.

Pippa Smith grew up in South Cumbria and leads a local grantmaking foundation. She will be fighting to represent Westmorland and Lonsdale and to repair the damage done by 14 years of Conservative government.

See Pippa’s website and Facebook page for more details on her plans for the campaign and the constituency.

Pippa said:

I’m standing to represent Westmorland and Lonsdale because I believe that a thriving, vibrant and greener future is possible for our communities.

I grew up in South Cumbria and spent my childhood climbing fells and swimming in lakes. I know how special this part of the world is.

But working and volunteering in the community has shown me the impact of the cost of living crisis and the decline of our public services. I know how challenging life can be in a rural community: our health system is at breaking point, our transport network is fragile and opportunities for young people are scarce.

I believe we deserve better, and after fourteen years of Conservative government, it’s time for change.

I have a track record of leadership in the charity sector, which means I can deliver for Westmorland and Lonsdale. I lead a local grantmaking foundation in South Cumbria, which brings me close to our communities and those who are grappling on the frontline after years of poor policy making.

I will bring my experience of working in the community together with fresh ideas and a bold outlook to fight for the change we need in Westmorland and Lonsdale.
